Crossing Inspection 1175 - Initial

Course Aims

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the underpinning knowledge and skills to achieve a suitable level as required by the latest Transport for London Standards.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Be able to demonstrate an awareness of the Inspection Frequencies relative to line speeds.
• Understand the need of visual observation in respect of the Inspection Procedure.
• Be able to identify the key elements of the crossing requiring particular attention and features to be observed during the Inspection.
• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the requirements when producing an Inspection Report and the ability to complete a Cast Crossing Inspection Report / Failure Report.
• Be able to identify the various types of cast crossings.
• Have a clear understanding of track geometry in relation to cast crossings.
• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding in the use of Dye Penetrative testing for the non-destructive testing of cast crossing.

Pre Requisite Requirements

The following pre-requisites are required:
• Prior basic knowledge of the permanent way track and its components
• Prior experience of working on the maintenance/renewal of S&C

PPE Requirements

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line and therefore, they MUST be in possession of:-
• Valid P. T. S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Safety Glasses BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F

Certification

A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of the course. Certification is valid for 3 years subject to required mentorship. A recertification will be required within a 3-year period.
