The course is intended to provide the delegate with the mentoring and assessment for sign off, in order to carry out the duties of a rail Grinding Operative.

Pre Requisite Requirements
The following pre-requisites are required:
Have awareness of current PUWER regulations in respect of abrasive wheels
Hold NDT (LPT/MPT)
Hold MC3 competency / Robel 13.61
Hold MV3 Competency
Hold Hand Held Angle Grinder Competency
Hold 110V Generator Competency
PPE Requirements
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line and therefore, they MUST be in possession of:-
- Valid P. T. S. Card
- High Visibility Flame Retardant Coverall to EN531, EN470 and GO/RT3279
- Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 15090 H13 C1 AN-F2A-PPE 3aCAT
- Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
- Anti-Vibration Gloves
- Ear protection to EN352
- Safety Glasses BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance B
Respiratory Personal Equipment (RPE) Requirements
- A half or full-face respirator with gas/vapour filters, rated at FFP3 shall be worn by all delegates
- Disposable paper masks are permitted, provided that they comply with EN14387 and hold the FFP3 rating
- Half-face respirators with attachable gas/vapour filters are also permitted, but they must comply with EN14387 and hold the FFP3 rating
A powered air-fed mask is the preferred option for RPE as it provides the greatest protection and comfort. Delegates must ensure that the filters are the correct type.
NOTE: Where facial hair (including stubble) obstructs any part of the mask's seal, delegates shall either remove the facial hair or alternatively, wear a full-face air-fed mask.
Delegates who present to the training event without sufficient PPE/RPE will be turned away.
This is in line with recent guidance from Network Rail regarding the correct types of RPE to be worn by individuals sporting facial hair
The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.
Certification
A letter of confirmation that the assessment was successfully completed will be awarded. No new competency certificate will be issued.
