Undertake Detailed Crossing Inspections (1054) - Recertification

Course Aims

This course (TR07.02) is intended to provide a delegate with the underpinning knowledge and skills to achieve a suitable level as required by the the latest Network Rail Company Standards.

Duration

1 day

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Be aware of all amendments and alterations to Network Rail Standards.
• Re-affirm the competence to undertake the inspection of Cast Crossings and Cast Vee's.
• Re-affirm the competence in L.P.T.

Pre Requisite Requirements

The following pre-requisites are required:
• Delegates attending MUST hold a valid 1054 certificate and valid LPT certificate.

• For any standard changes, it is the sponsor's responsibility to inform the delegate on any changes and for the delegate to be suitably prepared for the theory and practical assessments to take place against the new standard. A brief recap/overview will take place on the new standard before the assessments begin but will NOT involve any training on this.

PPE Requirements

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line and therefore, they MUST be in possession of:-
• Valid P.T.S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility Clothing to ISO 20471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Safety Glasses BS EN166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F

Delegates must wear nitrile gloves when handling LPT chemicals.

A half, or full-face respirator with gas/vapour filters, rated at FFP3 shall be worn by all delegates, due to the carcinogenic nature of the LPT chemicals.

Disposable paper masks are permitted, provided that they comply with EN14387 and hold the FFP3 rating.

Half face respirators with attachable gas/vapour filters are also permitted, but must comply with EN14387 and hold the FFP3 rating.

A powered air fed mask is the preferred option for Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE), as it provides the greatest protection and comfort. Delegates must ensure that the filters are the correct type.

NOTE: Where facial hair (including stubble) obstructs any part of the seal of the mask, delegates shall either remove the facial hair, or alternatively, wear a full-face air fed mask.

This is in line with recent guidance from Network Rail regarding the correct types of RPE to be worn by individuals sporting facial hair.

Certification

A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of the course. Certification is valid for 3 years.
