Track Handback - Initial

Course Aims

This course is intended to provide a delegate with an understanding of the requirements and procedures for the Raising and Removal of Speed Restrictions (TR12 & TR13), in accordance with the current Network Rail Standards, Track Work Instructions and Track Engineering Forms.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course the delegates will:
• Be re-appraised of the requirements for Raising and Removing Temporary Speed Restrictions
• Be aware of current standards and specifications relating to the raising and/or removal of speed restrictions
• Be able to identify both safety critical and non-critical track defects
• Have the ability to carry out a full practical assessment of track geometry, stability and physical characteristics

Pre Requisite Requirements

The following pre-requisites are required:
• Delegates should have in-depth knowledge and experience of the Permanent Way, and in particular Track Geometry.

PPE Requirements

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line and therefore, they MUST be in possession of:-
• Valid P.T.S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility Clothing to ISO 20471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Safety Glasses BS EN166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F

Certification

A certificate of competence will be awarded for a period of 3 years on successful completion of the training course.  The certificate will only be valid if supported by evidence of the following requirements. 

The delegate is required to undertake a period of workplace experience under the support of a mentor.  Mentored activity must be recorded in a log book.  Following completion of the mentoring the delegate will need to be assessed against the requirements of the competence standard in NR/SP/CTM/011 Appendix B.  The certificate will remain valid if supported by annual reviews by the employer to confirm 4 uses of the competence.  After a period of 3 years the certificate will no longer be valid but the employer will confirm competence by reissue of a new TEF3026 form following a reassessment of competence as specified in NR/SP/CTM/011.
