Course Aims
This course is intended to provide a delegate with the underpinning knowledge and skills to achieve a suitable level as required by the the latest Network Rail Company Standards.

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Be able to demonstrate an awareness of the frequencies of Inspections relating to Linespeeds.
• Understand the needs of Visual Observations in respect of the Inspection Procedures.
• Be able to identify the five Derailment Hazards.
• Recognise the tell tale signs of Derailment Risk.
• Be able to apply the relevant gauges and interpret the readings.
• Have an awareness of the effect of track conditions in relation to Derailment Hazards at Switches.
• Have a clear understanding of the profile inspection process following the grinding repair of the switch blade.
Pre Requisite Requirements
The following pre-requisites are required:
• Prior basic knowledge of the permanent way track and its components
• Prior experience of working on the maintenance/renewal of S&C
PPE Requirements
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line and therefore, they MUST be in possession of:-
• Valid P.T.S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility Clothing to ISO 20471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Safety Glasses BS EN166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
Certification
A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of the course. Certification is valid for 3 years subject to required mentorship.
