Course Aims
This course is intended to provide a delegate with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake Protection Controller duties in line with the Protection Controller unit of competence

At the end of this course the delegates will be able to: -
• Understand the roles and responsibilities of the Protection Controller
• Undertake the duties of a Protection Controller when a line blockage is required to be taken and shared by two or more COSS or IWAs.
• Understand the requirements for compliance to Handbook 8 of the Rule book
• Understand the importance of and apply correct communication protocols
• Adopt the appropriate behaviours to carry out this role safely and effectively
Pre Requisite Requirements
Delegates must be in possession of:
• Minimum age of 18
• Must have valid PTS and full COSS (not probationary)
• Hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card and meet the requirements of NR/L2/CTM/021 -Competence and Training in Track Safety.
• Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements and Specification NR/L1/OHS/051 Drugs & Alcohol
• Have a good level of English literacy
Delegates will complete a COSS verification assessment at the start of this course so it is recommended all delegates review their COSS knowledge prior to attending
PPE Requirements
Personal Protective Equipment is not required for this course.
Certification
No Certificate. This competency is valid for 2 years and will be recorded on the Sentinel database.
