Designated Person

Course Aims

This course is intended to provide staff with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to undertake the duties of Designated Person in accordance with the competence requirements in Rule Book Module T10

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Describe and have a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Designated Person
• Have a clear understanding of the relevant Railway Group Standards and Rulebook GE/RT8000 Module “T-10” as well as local instructions
• Be able to read and interpret the Sectional Appendix and Hazard Directory
• Describe how they would arrange protection on  a running line, depot or sidings with the Signaller
• Describe how they would work on a train in a station platform
• Demonstrate communicating clearly
• Demonstrate their ability to give an effective safety brief.

Pre Requisite Requirements

The following pre-requisites are required for this course:-
Delegates must hold PTS and be selected through their own company selection procedure. Delegates must maintain the medical level required for PTS.

PPE Requirements

This course requires the delegate to undertake a practical on a track layout, therefore, they MUST be in possession of:-
• Protective “all orange” high Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Safety Glasses BS. EN.166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F

Certification

A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of the course. Certification is valid for 2 years subject to required mentorship.
