Points Operator Recertification

Course Aims

This course is intended to provide the delegate with a re-assessment in their understanding of the duties of a Points Operator.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Be fully conversant with the duties of a Points Operator in accordance with the Network Rail Handbook 4.

Pre Requisite Requirements

Delegates must be in possession of:
1. be a minimum age of 18.
2. Must hold a valid track safety sentinel card endorsed with PTS and IWA or COSS and PO
3. Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements
4. Must have a good level of literacy to meet entry qualifications
5. Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).

PPE Requirements

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, they MUST be in possession of: -
• A Valid Sentinel Card
• Protective “all orange” high Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471:2003
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388:2121
• Safety Glasses BS. EN.166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F


No Certificate. This competency is valid for 2 years and will be recorded on the Sentinel database. This competence is recertificated as part of COSS recertification.
