Course Aims
This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking the installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of temporary clamped rail joints. The course will give the required knowledge, skills and understanding about how the location of a temporary rail joint can be determined, selection of the correct equipment, the agreed methods of installation, what considerations about the infrastructure that need to be made, how to check the quality of installation completed by either oneself or another installer, and how to remove a temporary rail joint.

Pre Requisite Requirements
The following pre-requisites are required for this course:-
1. be a minimum age of 18
2. Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements
3. Make necessary arrangements for Knowledge Assessments to be read to support those who have difficulty with reading.
4. Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol) within the last 3 months
5. Have sufficient command of English language, and of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety)
6. Must hold a Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with valid PTS and not undergoing learning support (green square must be removed prior to training).
PPE Requirements
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, they MUST be in possession of: -
• Protective “all orange” high Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Safety Glasses BS. EN.166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
Certification
No Certificate. This competency is valid for 2 years and will be recorded on the Sentinel database.
