Course Aims
This course is intended to ensure delegates are aware of the roles and responsibilities associated with the basic, safe and efficient operation of the Chainsaw and to give them the knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to cross cut and stack timber of the Railway infrastructure in line with the current standards.

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Understand the relevant legislation covering the safe use of a Chainsaw
• Know the PPE requirements when operating the Chainsaw
• Be able to identify and know the capability of the Chainsaw and its components
• Be able to set up and operate the equipment
• Be able to identify and report any defects in either the equipment or work undertaken
• Be able to correctly de-assemble and store the equipment
Pre Requisite Requirements
The following pre-requisites are required for this course:-
• Delegates MUST hold a Valid P. T. S. Card
PPE Requirements
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, they MUST be in possession of: -
• Valid P. T. S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility clothing to BS EN 471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• Ear Protection
• Safety Glasses BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Overalls
The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.
Certification
A Certificate of Training will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of the course. Certification is valid for 3 years. Recertification is required within 3 years.
