Course Aims
This course is intended to provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills to safely and effectively operate the Cembre Sleeper Drill in a railway environment.

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Understand the relevant legislation covering the safe use of a Cembre drill
• Know the PPE requirements when operating the rail drill
• Be able to identify the Cembre rail drill and its components
• Be able to identify common types of rail
• Know the capability of the Cembre rail drill
• Know the capability of the associated cutters and drill bits
• Be able to select correct templates and cutters for effective operation
• Know the correct coolant ratios
• Be able to set up and operate the equipment
• Be able to identify and report any defects in either the equipment or work undertaken
• Be able to correctly de-assemble and store the equipment
Pre Requisite Requirements
The following pre-requisites are required for this course:-
• Delegates MUST hold a Valid P. T. S. Card
• Safe use of Portable and Transportable Plant
PPE Requirements
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, they MUST be in possession of: -
• Valid P. T. S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility clothing to BS EN 471:2003
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995
• Ear Protection
• Safety Glasses BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388:2121
• Overalls
The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.
Certification
A Certificate of Training will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of the course. Certification is valid for 3 years, therefore, re-assessment shall be required within the 3-year period. Annual Review required by employer.
