Crossing Grinders

Course Aims

Provide the underpinning knowledge and practical experience on the safe and effective operation of the Matweld Grossing Grinder.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:

  • Carry out the necessary preparations to Matweld Crossing Grinder in line with work requirements
  • Complete appropriate visual checks and manual tests to make sure that the plant is in safe and usable condition, suitable for task, that fuel and lubricant levels are correct and any required certification/calibration is valid and current
  • Identify wear and defects that may prevent the Matweld Crossing Grinder from operating in the designed manner
  • Select and use personal protective equipment appropriate to the type of Matweld Crossing Grinder
  • Operate the Matweld Crossing Grinder safely, taking into account of the manufacturer's instructions
  • Check that others are protected while the Matweld Crossing Grinder is being used

Pre Requisite Requirements

The following pre-requisite is required:

  • Safe Use of Portable and Transportable Plant PTMP00 (for Network Rail delegates only. For supply chain, this module will be covered in the morning prior to the Crossing Grinder being undertaken).

PPE Requirements

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, they MUST be in possession of: -
• Valid P. T. S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility clothing to BS EN 471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• Ear Protection
• Safety Glasses BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Overalls
The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, competence will be valid for 3 years. Delegates who have not operated the equipment on 4 or more occasions over the past 12 months will need to be re-assessed as to their current competence.
