What is fire safety?
It is important to understand how to act in the event of fire. Construction workers have a duty of care to themselves and to other site and/or building users.
The purpose of this course is to help reduce the likelihood of a fire related incident occurring. The aim is to do this by increasing your knowledge and understanding of what fire is, how to prevent fires from starting and what to do if they do occur. The course content includes guidance on:
- Fire safety and the law
- The nature of fire, including the fire triangle
- How to create a safe working environment
- Fire evacuation procedures
- The principles of tackling small fires
Within a construction setting, fires can occur for many reasons. It is therefore important to understand how to apply emergency evacuation procedures, how to recognise different fire extinguishers and when it may be safe to attempt to tackle a fire.
